Celebrating Ramadhan with citizens of The Great Love Village of Angke River

On the day of the package distribution, 11 June 2017, volunteers arrived at the scene before 7 AM and sorted out the packages that will be distributed.

As many as 83 volunteers work together to separate biscuits and syrups from their boxes, and then assembled them neatly at the table.

Some of the volunteers include children from character building classes such as Tzu Shao, as well as children from adult volunteers. They are quite the tough and energetic assistants, and they don’t lose with the adult volunteers.

Before distributing the packages, the leader of The Great Love Village of Angke River, Ms. Mutmainah, stated her opening ceremony and welcome. Representing the citizens of the village, she expressed gratitude for the good affinity with the Tzu Chi volunteers.

Vitria, the silver Tzu Chi volunteer that has been the PIC of children’s activities in the residence, became the MC of the event, and also explained the meaning of the bamboo bank.

Volunteers lined up and stationed in their posts. There are divisions who share rice, another share biscuits, and so are for syrups.

One of the citizen; who is a mother, had troubles carrying the package by hand. She then requested a volunteer to put the rice on top of her head. A slight gesture from a volunteer coupled with a speech of gratitude from the woman is enough to make everyone smile happily.

Citizens of the village were also educated about going green by doing little things, such as bringing their own bags. When the coupon was distributed on June 5^th 2017, the volunteers had already sent the message, encouraging the citizens to bring their own bags from their own homes.

After sharing the packages, the used boxes which contained the biscuit and syrups were reassembled to be recycled.

One of the Tzu Shao, Angelique Sutanto, helped tidy the chairs after distributing the last package.

After breaking the fast, the children were then allowed to line up and pour their bank.

Clock showed 15:30 that day, and 300 rice boxes were ready to be delivered to the village.
